BLACKLIST coverage:
This is a beautifully written script. The prose is wonderful and evocative. The pages are busting with cinematic imagery, visual callbacks, and little clues that bring the reader deeper into the mystery. There are no wasted moments, as even a mundane shot of two dishwashers cleaning up is treated to a mini story arc. Atmospheric is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but it’s truly applicable in this case, as this script is a powerhouse of visual storytelling and is a showcase for using mood and visuals to tell a story.
The characters jump off the page. They are each given vibrant personalities and unique, quippy dialogue that helps showcase their personas. It’s a nice touch that every single character is given some form of a story arc, even if some are as simple as a character picking up smoking. They are all well-drawn, memorable, and horrible in equal measure.
The opening pages are full of intrigue and there’s lots of charm and charisma on the page. This opening sequence does a nice job balancing character introductions while establishing a hint of mystery.
